Congratulations to Jackie Doyle who was inducted into the Wicklow District Football Leagues hall of fame at last nights awards
Jackie Doyle has played a major role in the success story of Arklow Town over the last 40 years. His ability as an administrator has been recognised not only in his native town but also by the Leinster Senior League when he was awarded the Club Secretary of the year in 1996. Jackie joined Arklow Town joined as a 14 Yr old in the 1964 where he went on to have an outstanding schoolboy career. Jackie was also a very talented Gaa player who represented and captained Wicklow in both hurling and football at U16 and Minor level
In 1970 Jackie's interest in soccer was renewed when he joined Pottery Celtic and helped them to victory in the Jubilee Cup. The following year Jackie joined Arklow Town and so began a 40 year association with the club. Throughout the 1970s Jackie was a pivotal player with Arklow Town as a very strong and talented center half. Jackie 's football career came to a premature ending 1978 when a series of knee injuries forced him to retire. Ironically his retirement was a blessing in disguise for Arklow Town . He was soon afterwards persuaded to join the committee and he went on to serve as treasurer for 5yrs. In 1986 Jackie became club secretary a position that he held with distinction for over 30 yrs
Over the last 40 years Jackie Doyle has been one of the core of people who were forever driving the Arklow Town club forward both on and off the field of play. He was part of the committee who planned and oversaw the development of the great facilities that the club now enjoys. He would have seen Lamberton develop from a field on a hill to what it is today. Without the foresight and determination of people like Jackie Doyle this could never have been possible.
Congratulations and a big thank you from all at ATFC
