*** Dublin University 0, Arklow Town FC 6 ***
Our LSLTeam kindly sponsored by Altura Credit Union and The Old House were in action last night at St James Gate against Dublin University FC.
In what proved to be a beautiful crisp evening ideal for a game of football, the game got underway with the town settling in the better of both teams playing a lovely brand of possession football but as the game went on the "students" grew into the game pressing hard and creating chances and could have been 3 up only to find The Town keeper Gary Browne in impeccable form pulling off a string of fine saves to keep his colleagues in the game while the DCU were pressing hard to get ahead The Town yet again put in a workman like performance to keep them at bay with Don O'Neill standing out in the back unit while soaking up the pressure The Town created some good chances themselves and you would expect a goal at some point which came 25 minutes in through a fine cross from lee Kenny to find Stuey Mills on the prowl in the box ,The Town go 1.0 up in a game that continued end to end with Browner again in fine form.Half time approaching with a youthful mid field in Joe Mageery and Luke Scanlon working hard suitably assisted by the experienced Cormac Breslin to keep possession.
HALF TIME saw our management team of Gavin Doyle,Willie Kavanagh and Owen Moore earn their keep in what must have been a bit of a chat with the lads as they came out in the second half with a lot more fire in the bellies 10 minutes in and it was now all The Town. Johnathan Kelty received the ball out wide on rebound from a corner and in true Kelty fashion saw an opening and what one can only describe as a sublime finish in the top corner 2.0 the town who were piling on pressure now which led to defensive mix up leading to an own goal 3.0 .
Cometh the hour cometh the man Stuey Mills was yet again in the right spot bagging his second on the night 4.0 , his namesake stuey O'Neill wasnt allowing him take all the glory with a fine finish 5.0 .
With time ticking down it was time to empty a youthful bench and give some of the more experienced lads a breathe.
This yet again paid dividend with Owen Moore jnr getting the ball to hook up with his older brother Liam to slot the ball away 6..0 .
In what was a very entertaining game The Town must be credited for their commitment and workman like attitude in what was a good team effort keeper Gary Browne put in massive man of the match performance
